I have received a discarded Cybot robot which is mostly complete and decided to replace its control chips with an Arduino, which will require writing software to control the motors and receive inputs from the ultrasonic and LDR sensors. Overview

To build a computer controller robotic arm capable of moving with at least three degrees of freedom.  It would seem attractive to re-use a mechanical assembly, like an extendable desk lamp arm, as the basis for this.   My first attempt was using a Superlux Model C desklamp.</description>

I recently came across parts of a robot system that turned out to be parts of a “Rover 5 Explorer kit” type robot platform.  Rover 5 is a tracked chassis on which can be mounted a variety of robot controllers.  Explorer is an interface board to facilitate connection of an Arduino or similar controller to the robot platform.  An IR compound eye mounted on a pan/tilt assembly can be used to track moving objects or as a simple range finder.</description>

I don't have a charger, or battery, and don't know whether it even works at all. I suspect it is at least a little bit broken - plastic gears seem to be its weak point.

This radio controller toy from Maisto looks like a great candidate for converting into a Mars explorer type cross country, autonomous, robot.  I think it is functional, but without a battery or remote control.  From the circuit board it appears to have been made about 18/11/2014.</description>

So I built one using a plastic plate from an old CD ROM drive, a couple of geared motors, wheels from a “Turbo Diesel” dump truck toy (a knock-off of the Tonka Dump Truck?), and an Arduino Uno.  I always try to avoid buying any parts, so recycle whatever is available.</description>
