Reusing Stepper Motors

\\ Over the years I have collected many useful looking stepper motors, now it is time to start using them! ^Common stepper motor configurations have 4, 5 or 6 wires corresponding to phases wired as follows:||| |||| |4 wire bipolar stepper motor|5 wire unipolar stepper motor
(unipolar drive only)|6 wire unipolar stepper motor
(drive as bipolar by ignoring centre tap)| ^Less common stepper motor configurations have 8 or 9 wires corresponding to phases wired as follows:||| ||| |8 wire bipolar stepper motor|9 wire unipolar stepper motor
(unipolar drive only)| ===== Recovered stepper motors ===== On the :electronic:actuator:stepper:sidebar there is a list of stepper motors that I have recovered from various pieces of scrap equipment and the linked pages include basic motor specifications and connection details. ====== References and Additional Resources ====== * All About Stepper Motors, adafruit guide. * Convert unipolar stepper to bipolar, also hints on determining phase wiring. * Control of Stepping Motors * Stepper Motors (info on a number of steppers from old FDDs) * Ericsson Stepper Motor Application Notes * Stepper motor basics * Stepper accuracy and resolution * Choosing a stepper motor * How to Read Stepper Specs * Motor heating and power supply voltage * Motor power basics * Mid band instability * Stepping Motor's Principle of Operation If any referenced page no longer exists, try looking for its URL on http://archive.org. \\ ----
